Muhammad Ali, birth name Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr died on Friday evening at 9:10 p.m. Eastern Time on June 3, 2016. He was 74 years old.
He had died of septic shock due to unspecified natural causes, (the family spokesman) Bob Gunnell had said.
Ali had suffered for over 30 years from Parkinson's, it's a progressive neurological condition that slowly takes away your voice and physical dexterity.
As I was growing up I could remember my Grandfather always watching Ali's fights on the TV. He never missed any of them.
Back then we had those big heavy TVs, not like the flat screens we have now.
Well, enough about me and more about Ali. Yeah, I said that.
Ali was born in Louisville, Kentucky and Ali started boxing when he was 12 years old. In 1960 he won his Golden Gloves a gold medal as a light heavyweight.
When Ali fought Sonny Liston he came up with the rhyme line, "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee." He beat Liston in the sixth-round. This is when Ali proclaimed himself, "I am the greatest!I am the greatest! I'm the king of the world."
At the age of 22 Ali renounced his slave name Cassius Clay and renamed himself as Muhammed Ali. This name was also bestowed to him by Nation of Islam founder Elijah Muhammad.
